Paying for college – investing in Their Future.

Paying for college is one of the leading sources of stress for both prospective students and their families. At UNCG, we’re committed to an affordable, equitable education for your student, and we work hard to ensure they’re rewarded with the maximum amount of financial aid possible to help bring down the cost of college.

An outstanding educational value

WHAT WILL YOUR STUDENT’S EDUCATION COST?

Annual CostIn-StateOut-of-State
Tuition & Fees$7,731$24,705
Housing (Standard Double)$6,288$6,288
Unlimited Meal Plan$5,077$5,077
Total$19,096$36,070

The bottom line is often the topline consideration when it comes to the college decision process. UNCG works continuously to make our degrees as affordable as possible, and we’re proud to offer such a powerful education for such a strong value. But what does that mean for you and your student? Spartan Central, our one-stop resource for all things UNCG, has the answers you need, including the latest tuition and fees schedules; information on billing and payment (including available payment plans to help make costs more manageable); and an easy-to-use Bill Estimator Tool to help you and your student get a more precise idea of what costs you can expect.

THE FINANCIAL AID PROCESS AND YOU

If your student is seeking financial aid for their undergraduate studies, you’re an important part of the process, and we’re here to help you through it.

Together with your student, you’ll complete the FAFSA. If you have questions about the requirements, the Federal Student Aid website is a great resource.

When your student’s financial aid package is awarded, it’s usually all in their name. Any grants, subsidized or unsubsidized loans, and/or scholarships are solely connected to the student. If they’re awarded federal student loans, they won’t need you to cosign with them to receive the aid.

If your student is considered a dependent and you anticipate needing additional financial support, you may opt to apply for a Federal Parent PLUS loan. If you’re approved (based on a credit evaluation), you can take a PLUS loan to help cover your student’s educational costs. If you’re denied, your student still has an option to receive additional loan funds. You can find more details on the Federal Parent PLUS loan and the application on the Federal Student Aid website. For a better understanding of financial aid basics and your role in the process visit the Financial Aid section on Spartan Central, our one-stop resource for our students.

FIRST-YEAR SCHOLARSHIPS

Fall first-year applicants are automatically considered for a limited number of scholarships when they apply by the priority deadline. Merit-based and need-based awards are available. UNCG offers academically talented students a variety of merit-based scholarships. As a student progresses through enrollment there are also several departmental scholarships they can apply for based on their major. Read on for an overview of these scholarships and how to apply.

BLUE & GOLD SCHOLARSHIPS

Academically talented incoming first-year students are eligible for this merit-based scholarship which varies in value and duration. Students planning to enroll in the Fall semester would need to apply by January 15th of that academic year. When the Admissions Office receives their application, they will automatically be considered for our Blue & Gold Scholarships.

CHANCELLOR AND SPARTAN SCHOLARSHIPS

A select number of students who show academic merit and have financial need are eligible for these scholarships. Much like the Blue & Gold Scholarship, no secondary application is necessary beyond submitting your UNCG Application by January 15th and filing your student’s FAFSA to determine the aid need. Students will be notified by the Admissions Office or the Financial Aid Office no later than the end of January based on eligibility.

UNCG GUARANTEE

This scholarship is available to high-achieving, low-income N.C. residents who plan to enroll in UNCG as full-time students. Students must submit their application to UNCG within eight months of graduating from high school, file their FAFSA, and complete the UNCG Guarantee Eligibility Screening to help us determine if they are an eligible candidate. We offer priority consideration to candidates who apply before December 1st!

SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND MATH PREPARATION SCHOLARSHIPS (STAMPS 3.0)

Any pell-eligible first-year or community college transfer student with a 3.0 or higher GPA who is planning to major in Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Computer Science, Geography, Mathematics, or Physics is invited to apply to be a STAMPS Scholar. Eligible students will receive an invitation to apply for the STAMPS 3.0 scholarship program via email with instructions on how to apply.
