Taking care of what’s most importantto you.

Sending your student off to college is a big step — for all of you! But you can rest assured that UNCG makes your student’s health, wellness, and safety our top priority. From mental health supports, to opportunities to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle, to keeping them safe both on and off campus, when your student comes to UNCG, you’re putting them in good hands.

UNCG’s commitment to keeping our campus community safe includes several measures that help ensure a secure, welcoming environment for all.

KEEPING YOUR STUDENT SPARTAN SAFE

At every step of their journey, your student is a core focus of UNCG’s Culture of Care, part of our holistic commitment to our Spartans’ wellness. We know nothing is more important to you than your student’s health, safety, and success. It’s a commitment we make to them, and to you.

ON-CAMPUS POLICE

Our key safety resource is our UNCG Police department, centrally located on campus and providing proactive, professional law enforcement that protects our community. The UNCG Police Department offers free self defense classes and other training to staff and students.

SPARTAN ALERT

Our Spartan Alert Emergency Notification System alerts about everything from emergency incidents on or near campus to weather warnings in real time, continuously updated. Students are automatically opted in to receive text messages and families can easily join the alert system to ensure they are notified at the same time.

SPARTAN SAFE APP

The Spartan Safe app is designed to give members of our community immediate access to law enforcement assistance and other safety resources, helping them stay secure, prepared, and empowered to act. In addition to campus maps, safety resources, emergency alerts, and many more security features, Spartan Safe lets your student share their location with UNCG Police, friends, and you, so you know where they are and when they arrive at their destination safely. And anyone with the app can request a Safe Walk, which sends a member of our police, security, or student ranger departments to accompany you on campus anytime.

HEALTH, WELLNESS, AND ACCESSIBILITY

UNCG believes our students learn best when we take a holistic approach to education — one that supports the health and wellness of the body as well as the mind. We offer a range of services, facilities, and opportunities to help your student make the most of their college experience and stay well while they do so.

YOUR STUDENT’S HEALTH

Housed in state-of-the-art facilities in the heart of campus, Student Health Services has your student’s healthcare needs covered, with board-certified physicians, a full-service pharmacy, counseling, and much more. From primary care to sports medicine to mental health support, UNCG has your student’s health needs covered.

YOUR STUDENT’S WELLNESS

UNCG has everything your student needs to stay healthy and active. Our 216,000 square foot Leonard J. Kaplan Center for Wellness includes the latest fitness equipment, a rock climbing wall, exercise studios, multi-activity courts, and a truly impressive Natatorium with two swimming pools, a sauna, and even a sun deck. And our Department of Recreation and Wellness has much more to offer, including intramural sports (with 17+ club sports), group fitness and personal training sessions, and a range of exciting outdoor activity programs with Outdoor Activities that range from afternoon paddle boarding sessions to multiday interstate hiking adventures. It’s the perfect active complement to your student’s outstanding academic possibilities at UNCG!

YOUR STUDENT’S ACCESS

UNCG is committed to making an exceptional education accessible to all, and that includes physical accessibility. The Office of Accessibility Resources and Services (OARS) works UNCG to ensure all aspects of campus life are accessible for our diverse population. No matter what accessibility needs your student has, OARS is here to help ensure they’re being met, and that your student’s learning experience is equitable, accessible, and inclusive.

THE UNCG CULTURE OF CARE

When we talk about our Spartan community being a family, we really mean it — and that means empowering everyone in our community to care for each other’s well-being. UNCG’s Culture of Care is an initiative that trains faculty and staff to look out for our students’ mental health and well-being. College can sometimes be a lot to handle, especially in the wake of the pandemic and the isolation and upheaval your student and their peers and friends have experienced. You can rest assured that we’re looking out for your student’s well-being in every way, so they can focus on having a successful, healthy college experience.
